Digital Mapping: Overview

Mapscape brings you the power of a professional and powerful digital mapping system, straight to your Tablet on site, with a user-friendly intuitive and a tap-screen interface to speed up your workflow.

Mapscape comes with OS MasterMap Topography layer built in, as the most detailed and accurate view of the UK landscape for complete confidence in digital mapping.

Underpinned by QGIS: Mapscape includes a built for accuracy mapping toolset, comprising of a DWG DXF convertor, to import georeferenced DXF topographical or OS MasterMap site plans direct from your Local Drive (C), straight into the mapping window, that snap to scale to their ground position with no distortion.

Mapscape works with Bluesky data, HD aerial imagery, stored on your Tablet, received by email from office colleagues, or purchased direct from online O/S and mapping product suppliers.

Once imported you can securely save your site plan and mapping data to the Mapscape server and create a site bookmark, that on return to site, just double click and your site plan with the tree survey data will appear on screen exactly where you left off.

A Dedicated Tree Survey Toolset

Software Tools and Toolbars can sometimes be overwhelming. At Mapscape we have created 2-dedicated easy-to-use mapping toolsets for you, that quickly guide you through the import, export and map format choice click processes.

When using these mapping processes, all the remaining tools are momentarily greyed out.

Mapscape unique on-screen Help system prompts and provides instructional brief messages during the mapping processes, to make smooth operational use.

Capturing and recording your tree survey data couldn’t be simpler, with large clear areas for typing, multi-choice drop down tick boxes and slider bars, all designed for practical on-site use and for maximum accuracy and productivity.

Tree Survey Database Management
Managing tree survey data is an essential part of tree management and this is where Mapscape steps up, by providing an admin-friendly and easy-to-use tree survey Database, that is based on the well known and respected: Structured Query Language (SQL).

When you survey a tree, all the measurements and survey information are securely stored in a row, in a table, arranged in columns with clear headers in the same way you look at a spreadsheet.

The Mapscape Database is designed for effective tree management. with each component cell being fully editable.

When you you assign a tree re-inspection date to a tree condition and / or a tree risk assessment, Mapscape remembers the date and reminds you when the re-inspection is overdue, that includes the site address and the tree number for up to 2-years.

Intuitive with a Minimal Learning Curve

A top of the list and significant part of the Mapscape ‘Research and Design’ process, is to ensure that all software developments meet the following targets:

  • Easy-to-follow on screen.
  • Uncomplicated for use of site.
  • Seek to provide accurate and more effective methods of capturing, storing and converting tree mapping and survey data into the required formats.
  • Minimise the user learning curve.
  • Consider human objections in behaviour change to new and improved survey systems.
  • Work as a collective software system to make business an easy-process for both individuals and arboricultural teams.

These targets are then repeatably tested and polished to provide the intuitive and a user-friendly digital mapping and software system that Mapscape is.

Mapscape requires little or no instruction, as there is an on-screen step-by-step user help guide, with clickable checkpoint options to instruct you what to do next, on all mapping and tree surveying processes.

Plotting Tree Positions using GPS

Difd you know that dual frequency GPS technology is now filtering down to the smart phone market in an affordable way.

Mapscape is configured to work the latest generation of mobile phones that includes a GPS chipset such as:

  • List of mobile phones (Coming soon).

Mapscape tested this GPS chipset and achieved positional plotting to sub 500mm level of accuracy with fast tracking.

This technical innovation is built into Mapscape and all you need to do is connect up your GPS phone following the on-screen instructions.

Your phone position will be now visible on the mapping window and is traffic light colour codedthat represents the level of positional accuracy.

A few hundred pounds can now give you a sub 500mm level of accuracy to plot tree positions that was previously only achievable with high tech equipment costing thousands.

Data security

At Mapscape we take data security very seriously.

Data is regularly backed up and is only accessible by registered users from the Server via a unique weblink, username and encrypted password.

There are strong hardware security features in place and Mapscape holds its own Cyber Security Insurance policy.

A secure system is created using a combination of hardware-based security, secure software protocols and system processes.

Mapscape also provides when exiting the program a Back-up Data option that stores all your tree survey data on our Local drive (C) in the Mapscape directory.

You can can copy this Back-up and move it to a safe location of your choice.

On-Site Accurate Mapping

Mapscape comes with OS MasterMap Topography Layer built in. Just switch it on and see on screen the most detailed, current and comprehensive map dataset of Great Britain.

This makes the ideal tree survey mapping solution and geo-tagging trees by use of Ordnance Survey built in topographic identifier (TOID ®) for accurate point reference.

Designed for Business Productivity

A Mapscape single user license enables use of the software on 3-devices, including an appointed user if working with a sub-contractor.

You can also quickly export your tree survey site plan in, DXF, PDF, KLM and GeoTiff formats.

As soon as the tree survey data is saved on site. it is available on the server and back in the office, where your IT or CAD colleagues can access your tree survey data in a selection for producing the finished tree survey product.

Mapscape works with Blue Sky data and HD georeferenced imagery, where you just import the file straight into the mapping window.

Let Mapscape technology turn time into a better Climatic Tree Management System, backed up with technical  support every step of the way.

Background Mapping & Importing Site Plans

Essentially geo-referencing means a, map or HD image will appear on a digital mapping program such as Mapscape, in its correct orientation, scale and location in relation to the Earth’s surface.

Mapscape toolsets all include popups with expanded descriptions for each tool. and all the mapping processes are easy-to-follow. with on screen step-by-step instruction.

Mapscape is a precision digital mapping and tree surveying program, that requires little or no instruction at all to use and slips seamlessly in to your workflow.
